Scary stuff...
So I finnally watched that movie "the Pianist" for the first time the other day. I watched it with my guitar player Jarek, who happens to be from Poland. Well for those of you who don't know, the movie is based on a true story about a Polish piano composer during the Nazi take over in Europe. Anyways, Jarek's granparents and some of thier friends were in Poland during the war. They told him many stories about it when he was growing up. Basically, he told me that a lot of small things that happened in the beggining of the war (before it got extrememe like the polish ghetto and concentration camps) are resembling some of the changes the gov't here is trying to push (under the bush administration). He said that back then in the beggining nobody though anything like that would happen, the basic feeling was "that sort of thing could never happen now." But it did. Anyways, I find that really scary, and so does he. He's even said that if Bush gets elected again he will seriously consider going back to Poland (even though since they've joined the Europen union thier economys taken one big crap and no one can get a job there). Anyways, I'm not trying to tell anyone who to vote for or anything, but, I wanted to share that, cause we need to remember that that sort of thing can ALWAYS happen, no matter where you are, and you cannot afford to stop paying attention. | | Friday, September 10th, 2004 | | 11:36 am |
stuff
so, I have been very busy and haven't written much, cause I have been too tired. But, I am moving to the eastbay soon, but I am couch surfing for a week or two till I get my deposit back. I have plenty of places to crash, but I need someone to watch my cat for that time. Know anybody who might be willing to? I can provide all the food and litter and I'll throw you $50 for your trouble (although she's a really good cat, and she'll probably just hide in a corner the whole time). Other than that, I've just been working at the job and working on band stuff and packing. As some of you may have heard, I was in a car accident a few weeks ago, I'm fine, and so is the driver, the car was almost totaled though, we got very lucky. Also, just got news that the next 'Spectacular Spectacular' is going to be on Halloween at the DNA lounge, whoop!! My big challege will be to get the day off work, I'll have to pray for a miracle or maybe get someone to switch shifts with me, I dunno. Anyways, that's all for now. | | Tuesday, June 29th, 2004 | | 4:37 pm |
Hey SF Kids!
So me, DarkDecay, and HeadHouse have been discussing having a once a week hand-out-at-a-coffe-shop type thing during the day as a nice way to break up the clubbing thing and get to know everyone better and avoid having every other scentence in our conversations be "what? I can't hear you!". Soooooo, tommorow (wed) we plan on meeting up at cup-a-joe (on Sutter and Leavenworth) around 4:30/5:00pm and hanging out for awhile. If you live downtown, in the Tenderloin or Nob Hill, it's easy to walk to. We hope to do this once a week (every wed. same time), so spread the work and come hang out for coffe! | | Friday, June 25th, 2004 | | 1:33 am |
days past...
Sooo, yesterday was one of the MOST amazing days I've had in a long time, but I was too tired to write about it then, so I'm writing about it now. Jarek (guitarist/songrwriter I'm in a band with) and myself went hiking and exploring all day. We sat on the beach and listened to two of the songs off our new (almost finished) album, and OMG, it was one of those moments you wish you could freeze in time and enjoy forever. The music went perfect with everything, the crashing of the waves, the pelicans flying by, the clouds as they passed over the sun. I've waited my whole life to make music that can make me feel as amazing as other peoples music has made me feel, and it totally felt achieved yesterday. We've been so busy analyzing and getting technical with the music we hadn't stopped to realize just how emotionally powerful it is. Anyways, we also saw not one but two white deer while we were out (one got incredibly close), we also saw a mamma deer and her fawns, and a hawk that caught a squirrel or something. Anyways, it's been a lonnnggg time since I spent a day outdoors, and I feel so much more alive now *sigh*, too bad I can't do it more often. Moving forward...
Today was my last voice lesson with my teacher for two months as she is going back to germany for the summer, wah! I've made a lot of progress and we've recorded the lessons so I can practice while she's gone, but, it a nice security blaket to have a trained proffessional to run to when you know you are screwing up. But, on the other hand, I'll be able to save a good chuck o cash over the next two months (cause voice lessons are damn expensive.) Which means I can get that p.a. monitor I need, and maybe have a good chunk going torwards a new guitar *gasp*, I haven't bought a new guitar in maybe 4 or 5 years, and I probably should. (hmmm, on a side not, i also just finished a milano cookie, and can I say "yummmmyyyy!", hehe! Just had to add that.) Well, now I'm off to assimilate (yes, at 1 in the morning), I have to drop of the gogo shirts to bret (ECF promoter) cause he's gonna silk screen them, and I promised I'd drop them off tonight. Maybe I'll shake my bootay for the last hour or maybe I'll just turn around and head home, we'll see. "la la la la la la!!" Sooo much to do and ,hey wait, I think I have enough time today!
OMG, I've been up since 8am, no shit! I went to bed at three last night, and I woke up at 8 and couldn't get back to sleep. I don't know why this is but yesterday was a very strange day that kept me on my feet and maybe I'm looking forward to another one. Last night I had sushi from my fav sushi place (thats open till 2am, oh yeah!), yuuummmyyyy! Then I fell asleep watching the Nerverending Story. Don't laugh at me, but that was one of my FAVORITE movies as a kid, and Jared bought it for me a few months ago. There were so many great fantasy movies that came out when I was a kid, and they inspired me soooo much, and I like feeling that way again (movies like the Labriynth, Legend, Dark Crystal.) There were also a lot of great Barbarian movies in the 80's too, anybody remember Beastmaster, yeah baby, nuthin like watching a hot, sweaty, buff Barbarian swinging a massive sword around to make a pre-pubescent girl feel kinda funny...but maybe I should save the rest of that post for girlpeegs. Anyways, I got up like 4 hours before I normally do, but I'm very proud of myself cause I was proactive about it and went jogging *gasp*, this I NEVER do, but I ALWAYS plan on doing. I do work out, but I don't generally like leaving the house , but goddamn, it's really nice out today. *whew* anyways, I need to take a shower, all that running made me, well, stinky! (and after that I'm off the the Victoria Secret Semi-Annual sale that started yesterday *squeal* WATCHOUT!) and after that lunch with my dear freind Diana, and after that I practice for a few hours, I gotta work on vocals AND guitar stuff now. After that I meet with Jarek for rehersal and mixing. And maybe after that, if I am still awake enough, NOCTURNIA, whoooo... Whew!
I've got so much going on lately, I've been wanting to write about it in LJ, but I haven't had much time. ECF went of well last friday, despite being short a dancer. Fortunately, the girls I recruited are burlesque performers, so they adapted to the change just fine. Jarek and I had our first "band" photo shoot at my house, which went well. Were almost done mixing down the new album, it's actually kinda getting nit-picky at this point, but, were not beating ourselves up over it yet. Work is picking up so it's crazy busy and as it's tourist season, that means half my customers don't speak much english, take forever to order, and don't tip. Ah well, I stopped getting pissed about it a long time ago. I've been picking up my guitar more recently, but it's really sad, I used to be SOOO good, and now my figers are retarted. I used to practice for hours a day, and I don't know how I'm gonna find time to do that, but I wanna get good again. I may have to actually, cause it looks like I'll be doing all the second guitar stuff when the band starts gigging. I REALLY want a gym membership, Jared went to Crunch and they made us a pretty good offer, I've just got to re-work my buget to fit it in. Anyways, there's more, but, I gotta get going... WARNING!!!
I just clicked on a freinds post that said only "this is very interesting" the word "this" being a link to something, and suddenly me and two other people have a post saying exactly the same thing, even though neiter of us made a post. I think it's some kind of virus, and I don't have a clue how to check my computer for that sort of thing. But DO NOT click on a post with those words! | | Monday, June 7th, 2004 | | 11:32 am |

What's up
Sooo, I've had a rather productive day. I finnally made the necessary phone calls to all the agencies I owe money to (big bills from when I had a high paying job and almost no rent). I let them know I was finnally getting financially stable and want to pay off my debt and please don't take me to court or anything. So, it's all worked out and though I feel better knowing I'm going to be getting all of this taken care of, my bills are going to be very hefty, which meant lots of extra work and being very, very poor for awhile, but, I don't mind it too much. I'm actually looking for a new job, during the day, I've already sent in a few responses to some CL ad's. If I can land a day job and work a few nights a week waiting tables at my current job, this whole thing will go lot's faster. I am going to have to put off school for awhile, but, I'd prefer to be debt free. In other news, the band news, we finished recording last week, and now we look ahead to mixing an recruting band members. We have leads on a bass player and keyboardist, now all we need is a drummer and 2nd guitarist. So, if anybody knows of a job, or a musician that could possibly be available to me, lemme know! Anyway, headed out to Nocturnia tonight, it's walking distance and super cheap, which is in my budget. Plus I haven't gone out since Friday, and that was my gogo gig at the Cherry Bar. And speaking of, it went very well, and there will indeed be an Electric Cherry Fuzz next month (I just got the news from Bret), woohoo! More cute gogo outfits and I get to choreograph another song. Oh, and for those of you who havent noticed, my BF is now on LJ, so I guess I can't whine about him anymore (haha, gotcha babe!), I guess I'll have to save those posts for girlpeegs. Hrmm, well, time get ready to go out, gotta get purdy! | | Sunday, May 9th, 2004 | | 5:43 am |
and stuff...
so, I've had tons of stuff happen since my last entry, but I suck at this, so I won't be going into detail on any of the good, bad or ugly since then. Buutt, tonight work sucked, but I got out kinda early, and the rest of my night RULED!! I came home about 30 minutes ago bouncing up the stairwell with the most ridiculous grin on my face cause I was just feeling sooo friggin good about things. But, circumstance chose to beat that out of me about ten seconds after walking in the door. So, instead I'm going to tell my fab live journal all about it, cause right now, even my cat doesn't care.... Soooooo, tonight ruled!! I got to hang out with other musicians whom I really admire!! and we rocked out! I did an impromptu performance, laughed my arse off, and had a great conversation on the way home with the russian cab driver. Feeliinggg soooooooo inspired right now. Also feeling very glad to have a journal to express myself to, cause I might explode from repression otherwise. (I've also had two martini's and about 900 calories worth of food all day, so I'm a little giddly.) anyway, I just wanted to say, things turned out really great for me today, and I didn't want to keep that all to myself, so I'm puttin it down in my LJ! grrrrrrr....
I just saw a life insurance add with a little chart on it listing the monthly cost for your life insurance broken down by age category and sex. Women's life insurance is about 20% cheaper than mens. I don't know how much more insulting that add could be. I know that kind of thing is based off of income satistics, which would also show that women make less than men at all levels of education and job status, but that doesn't make it less insulting, probably more. AS much as poeple like to spout about there being equality amongst the sexes in this country, the numbers show different. Don't get me wrong, I don't hate men or anything, you won't see me going femnazi anytime soon, most of the men I know have nothing to do with the income gap between the sexes. It's just things like that make it painfully obvious that despite how far we've come with the civil right's movement, things haven't quite equaled out. | | Thursday, April 1st, 2004 | | 12:54 am |
Life in the City....
So, on my way home today from work, I was reminded why I love and hate living in SF. I had a very long day at work, and all I wanted was a peacful walk home, stop by the atm and drop off my tips, get some sushi and go home, quitely and relaxed. The homeless, panhandling crackheads had a different idea though. Out in front of the atm was one of the local crazy, loud, obnoxious strung-ou-as-fuck female crackheads that I can't stand. Her m.o. is to say something like "i'm not trying to make you uncomfortable, but I'm so desperate I'm so hugry, just a nickel for the homeless, just a nickle, please, please sir, just a nickel for the homeless!!!" she will walk closer and closer and repeat that exact same question, louder and louder. I almost told her to get lost, and let her know that it is illegal to panhandle within 20ft of an atm machine, but decided against it as I know how poorly she responds to any resistance. I had to walk to the end of the block and pretend to make a phone call and wait until she had given up on the people at the atm. After I finished my transaction I proceeded to my favorite sushi bar. I love that place, it's open till 2am, and has the tastiest sushi, it's a little pricy, but well worth it. The staff is great, and the sushi cook is this really nice, really cute japanese guy. (Nuthin better than having your food prepared by someone attractive!) So I skipped out of there with my to-go sushi and headed home, in a little better mood. On my way down post I notice the COOLEST art peice in the 'Black and White' gallery window. It was a metal stand, about 4 ft tall and hanging from it were 3 gas masks, at different levels. The tubes wound downwards and around each other, and the eyes of the masks were lit from behind. In each eyehole of each mask was a different picture of a girl in cool bondage gear, doing different things. The pics looked neat cause they were lit from behind, and being in the eyes of the mask make it look like you could see what the person behind the mask would be seeing. It was sooo cool. But, the good mood could not last. I got panhandled twice more, by some crackheads who though I was a total bitch cause I wouldn't give them any money (one of whom was wearing a brand new pair of white sneakers). I really hope Newsom follows through with his plan to clean things up, cause some days I just about go ballistic. | | Tuesday, March 23rd, 2004 | | 2:38 am |
VIVA LAS VEGAS!!!
WOOT!! guess who's going to vegas in two weeks, thats right baby, MMEEEE! It's my first time going to vegas, and it's my birthday present to me, since my birfday is next month (april 18th,the BIG 25, I can feel my arthritis flaring up already). It's going to be the viva las vegas rockabilly weekend, (kewel cars and lotsa beer). I'm soooo excited, I haven't been on vacation in almost two years. In other kewel news, I saw Dawn of the Dead, and it was goretastic!! And my freind Jarek (who also plays guitar and stuff in our new project) gave me the new live OPETH DVD, and whoa nelly! They have got to be one of the best bands EVER, they sound so killer live. When I saw them last NOV they had all been really sick, and STILL played such an amazing show. Yee haw! Thanks JAREK!! Hrrmm, that's all. Nocturnia is tommorow, and I will try very hard to go if our recording session doesn't go too late (yesh, for those of you wondering, this project is sort of a continuation of Halcyon Days, and yesh, we will have a demo in the next month or so.) | | Thursday, March 18th, 2004 | | 4:29 pm |
GGRRRRR!!!
I do beleive I am in for an exciting week and weekend. But for now I'm annoyed. My stinky butt boyfreind beat me to the shower and I got up waaayyy earlier. How is that? I think I was trying to be nice by making him a breakfast smoothie and he bypassed it and ran into the shower while I was checking my e-mail. Anyways, Jarek (guitarist and musician extroardinare) and I are back in the make shift studio tonight to continue recoring our new album. We already finished the first three songs so that we can mix and distribute a demo. We need to find a bassist, drummer and keyboard/guitar player. This album so far has been way more stress free and easy to record than the last one (which took two years), and this will be the album we play from live, since the old members have since stared new projects as well. Anyway,In other news, I'm going to Vegas in April for the Vivs las Vegas weekend. Some of my girlfreinds who are going have room for one more and they suggested I do it as a b-day present to myself. Seeing as I worked my last two birthday's and this year I'll be the big 25, I said yes. Hrrmm, also getting ready for screamqueen's gorefest this weekend. There is a uniform store by my apt and i'm thinking I could get some doctor's scrubs and use the leftover paint from my meat costume to bloody them up....We'll see. I still have the handstamp from the DG 11 yr anniversary party last night. it says "DECEASED", and that pleases me to no end. I don't want to wash it off, maybe I just won't wash my right hand....eewwww!! maybe I will afterall. | | 4:43 am |
WoooooooHooo
oooooooooooooooooo!!!! Hey all, I'm writing from the DNA lounge, it's whumpy whumpy house music tonight, and hip hop style stuff. We came here after SIN and SHOOk some bootay. Now everyone is just kinda passing out. I'm not drunk at all, but feeling very loopy, and my contacts are so dry that everything is fuzzy, so I mind as well be drunk. Anyway, I've had a great night, lots of dancing, I'm probably going to be soooo sore tommorow, and I have to work a ten hour shift tommorow, and go to Dark sparkle afterwards. Hmmm, that may require some red bull, but we'll see. Anyway, I think everyone is getting ready to leave. Woot!!! |
